Our Movie of the Week

Our movie of the week is an absolute classic. “Center Stage” tells the story of 12 young dancers competing for a spot in the American Ballet Company, and who are willing to do anything to get it. This classic shows us how the dance world works, behind the scenes. And it has everything you need in a movie, the love triangle, drama and high-stakes. Oh and how could we forget, amazing choreography! Check it out and let us know what you think about it!

Sisters Awe Audience in Kentucky Dance Competition

From the very first moment sisters Quincy and Gracie Latkovski were wheeled onto stage, we could tell it was going to be an emotional performance. Gracie, who uses a wheelchair due to effects of Cystic Fibrosis and Cerebral Palsy has been dancing since she was 3 years-old. This past weekend, the now 9-year-old took on the Jamfest Dance Super Nationals in Kentucky with her sister Quincy.

The duet began with both girls in wheelchairs, but Quincy soon stood up and twirled around her sister in their choreographed dance to “Reflections.” The audience was in awe of the Latkovski sisters and we can saw we were also inspired and moved by their performance. Quincy and Gracie took the national championship in the special needs category. (FOX 19)

What Happens When You Sync Beyoncé to an Ice Dancing Routine

Image

If you are in any way similar to us, you are definitely turning your TV on any chance you get to watch a bit of Winter Olympics magic. Last weekend we saw U.S. Olympians Meryl Davis and Charlie White awe the Sochi crowd with their beautiful ice dancing performance. They won by nearly 7 points with their routine called “Scheherazade,” and it was nothing short of spectacular. But Twitter will be Twitter, and people will always find a way to make something more entertaining. Several users tweeted out requests for the duo to dance to Beyoncé instead of “boring old music.” And the folks at Buzzfeed complied. They simply played Beyoncé’s “Drunk in Love” in the background of their performance and it is amazing. Almost as if Meryl and Charlie had choreographed to Beyoncé’s song all along! (Buzzfeed)

This leaves us wondering, what can you do in a year if you really put your mind to it?  We would love to help you reach your dance goals in this next year here at A Step in Time, so check out this video, and get inspired!

We like it spicy!

Here are some excerpts from this awesome article we read this week. The title alone had us hooked! “”The highly unusual company behind Sriracha, the world’s coolest hot sauce”
Image

If David Tran were a more conventional CEO, he would be a fixture at conferences, a darling of magazine profiles, and a subject of case studies in the Harvard Business Review. Sriracha hot sauce, made by Huy Fong Foods, which Tran founded 33 years ago in Los Angeles, is one of the coolest brands in town. There are entire cookbooks written to celebrate Sriracha’s versatility; memorabilia ranging from iPhone covers to t-shirts and all sorts of other swag; a documentary in the works to chronicle its rise; and innumerable imitators. Sriracha sales last year reached some 20 million bottles to the tune of $60 million dollars, percentage sales growth is in the double digits each year, and it does all this without spending a cent on advertising. Today hot sauce is an emerging global business. The industry, which is among the 10 fastest growing in the US, now rakes in over $1 billion a year in global sales.

Seriously?!?!  Over $1 BILLION industry?! Who knew..

Tran also learned only recently that Sriracha has become a popular ingredient among sushi chefs, who have been using it to spice up spicy tuna rolls for years. “I didn’t know until one of my distributors told me,” Tran said. In fact, says Hammond, it’s “almost always the spicy ingredient in spicy tuna rolls these days. It probably makes up a pretty significant portion of their sales.”

Oh yes, my spicy tuna rolls would NOT be the same without it!

Most commercially distributed hot sauces are made with dried chilies to make it easier to harvest, process and bottle the product at scale. McIlhenny, the maker of Tabasco, for example, buys its chilies from producers around the globe. But Sriracha is—and always always has been—made with fresh chilies. It’s what separates it from the competition, says Tran.
His unwillingness to compromise on quality means that the chilies for Sriracha need to be processed within a day of being picked. So Huy Fong’s Rosemead factory sits only an hour away from Underwood Family Farms, which has been the company’s only chili supplier for the past 20 years.

And we don’t want to see it going anywhere anytime soon… Ok, signing off, I’m going to go get myself some Siracha!

Who woulda thunk?!

Things we do every single day…

Everyone has their own little habits, quirks, pet peeves, etc… But sometimes you just do things because you are taught once by someone and that’s the only thing you know. Welllllll…. for every time you’ve eaten at a restaurant and had some ketchup in a paper cup, you were wrong. Take 30 seconds to watch this video that is not only going to change your view on condiments, it’s going to blow your mind!

http://foodbeast.com/2012/08/01/so-apparently-weve-been-using-ketchup-cups-all-wrong/

So next time you go to a hamburger and french fries joint, make sure to utilize the ketchup cup the correct way! Don’t make the mistake that so many do. Be ahead of the game and show your friends just how cool you are! Something that they like to calls “ketchup ignorance.” Who knew there was such a thing… We sure didn’t!
